PIFC & JAFC Championship 1st Round   15/05/2014

Reports by Brian Hartnett PRO

PIFC

On Saturday 10th May in Enniskeane, the Intermediates got off to a great start by beating Castletownbere in the 1st Round of the Premier Intermediate Football Championship.

It wasn't until the final minute of the game that St Michaels drew level, before eventually going on to win the game scoring 1-3 in injury time.

Playing against a strong wind in the first half, Michaels got off to a great start with two great solo runs by Alan Nolan, before he eventually popped them over the bar to see the score at two points a piece. Castletownbere went a further two points ahead, but our lads always kept within touching distance as they racked up another two points to see the score at four points each after 16 minutes.

After this, it was point for point, but Castletownbere just edged it when then the referee blew for half time which saw the scoreline at St Michaels 0-5 Castletownbere 0-7.

The wind was to Michaels backs in the second half, but the lads never really took advantage until the last few minutes of the game. Castletownbere only registered one point in the second half, which shows how well our defence played, particularly Ciaran O' Shaughnessy who made great runs up and down the wings. Michaels then went two points up in injury time, before Mark Ryan popped up and scored a late goal which saw Michaels guarantee their place in the 4th Round of the Premier Intermediate Football Championship and the final score reading St Michaels 1-11 Castletownbere 0-08

Our Juniors began their Championship campaign on Wednesday night in Ballinlough versus a very good Whites Cross side.

A very fast paced Whites Cross side raked up a massive 21 points after a brilliant performance saw them through to the next round of the Championship.

Our lads had a very slow start which saw Whites Cross score 8 points on the bounce. It wasn't until the second half of the match where our lads really showed what they were capable of, but Whites Cross kept plugging away and did enough to get over the line in the end.

The full time score read St Michaels 2-09 Whites Cross 0-21
