St Michaels 4-11 Courcey Rovers 3-11
County Champions, a win borne out of sheer heart and dertmination. Courceys to their credit , threw everything at us and only the width of the crossbar separated the teams in the very last act of the game. In front of a large support out in MTU, Michaels raced into an early three point lead , but Courceys showed their intent, and always looked dangerous. After it being point for point midway through the opening half , Courceys took the lead for the first time right on half time. A few goal chances spurned by either side had both sides thinking it could have been a different score at the halftime whistle. A blistering start to the second half by Michaels was the foundation for victory. After Kate Leneghan settled the nerves with an equaliser, two Cliona O Callaghan goals within a minute looked crucial and it propelled us into a six point lead , 2-09 0-09. Courceys replied almost immediately though , 2-09 1-09 now ,before Kate and Mia added points to make it comfortable again 2-11 1-10. Clionas hat trick moment arrived in the 52nd minute , pushing us out to a seven point lead, 3-11 1-10, it looked over. Fair play to Courceys, they just didn’t give up and within three minutes it was back to a goal. Cliona though was proving a real thorn in the Courceys defence and after being taken down for a penalty , Kate Leneghan coolly slotted it home to make it a six point game on the 60th minute. Again , Courceys came back ,and a goal two minutes into injury time had the nerves frayed in the large Michaels support. Three further minutes of play ensued before the final kick of the match rebounded back into play off the crossbar , Andrea might have got a touch to it ? She didn’t care , she’s a County Champion. What a win , well done to all involved.
