Juniors lose to Ballyphehane 1-12 2-14

St Michaels 1-12 Ballyphehane 2-14

It looked like a pleasant evening on the way to Páirc Mhichíl Naofa tonight, but the experienced amongst us were well prepared for the biting cold, once the sun went in. In what was a very entertaining Junior A league match, the spoils went to southside rivals Ballyphehane, who ran out 5 point winners against 14 man Michaels. A brave display by the home side, who led at half time by 3 points following a very good first half showing. Just before half time however , we were reduced to 14 when Pat Doyle received a second yellow from referee Cormac Dineen. Before that , we more than matched Ballyphehane, when scores by Hennessy , O’Sullivan and young Minor, Daire Mclafferty, had us in contention in a game that flowed from one end to the other straight from the throw in. A fantastic Domhnall Cremin goal in the 29th minute gave us that half time advantage on the scoreboard.  The imbalance in numbers was always going to get us though , and although we edged 4 in front, a fortuitous Ballyphehane goal after a great block down, got the away side back into contention. Soon after, another followed ,coming after we had a great chance of our own. The experience of Ballyphehane allowed them to close out the game, as they added a few more points to close out 5 point winners. Still though , we were pleased with the performance,  and we are going in the right direction, with some very good displays from the younger lads once more. Next up for the Juniors is a home tie against St Nicks on the 24 April.
