Seniors Lose Opening league match

St Michaels 0-07  (0-2-3) Uibh Laoire 1-16 (1-3-10)

Our Senior footballers opened their Div. 2 campaign with a disappointing defeat in Páirc Mhichíl Naofa this morning. Shorn of a lot of regulars through injury, Michaels battled gamely, but Uibh Laoire were fully deserving of their victory. With conditions poor , it was hard to see anything other than a game of two halves, as the strong breeze blew down the pitch all game. Michaels played with this strong breeze in the opening half but failed to make inroads with Uibh Laoire defending well in the opening quarter. In fact, it was the Inchigeelagh team that settled better, and after a mix up in the Michaels defence, a green flag after 10 mins had them race into a 6 point lead. Soon after, a nicely worked Michaels move saw Keith unlucky to see his effort come back off the post. Luke O’Herlihy found his range  and added two fine 2 pointers from play to get us up and running. 4 points at HT was never going to be enough , and although we battled manfully in the second period , Uibh Laoire , through Cathal Vaughan and Ian Jones scored some fantastic long range scores, with 3 two pointers included in their haul of 1-16. Hard luck to all involved, we will dust ourselves down and go again in a few weeks, when we make the long journey to Castletownbere. The best of luck to Uibh Laoire for the remainder of 2026.
