Seniors lose out in Ballincollig

Ballincollig 1-12 St Michaels 1-08

Our Seniors went down to a strong Ballincollig side tonight in tough conditions, particularly evident in the opening half.  After a slow start , we slipped 5 behind, before a two pointer free from Mikey got us up and running on the quarter . Shortly after that , almost from the kickout , we won a great ball around the middle, and following a great move, a gilt edged goal chance went a begging. Luke Carroll barged upfield shortly after to get our first one pointer after 17 mins. Collig added two more from play before Bucks got a fine score from play. Before that, we had lost the influential Shox to injury however , which was a blow to us , although Fionnan Leahy coming on to replace him negated that loss ,with Emmet moving to the middle .  A score right on the whistle ensured the home side went into the sanctuary of the dressing room 0-08 to 0-04 to the good. Ballincollig started the second half with the opening point, and shortly after, when Simon Falvey was unlucky to see a pile driver go the wrong side of the upright , another good goal chance  was spurned.  Luke o Herlihy was introduced and soon made his presence felt with a fine goal. An injury to a Ballincollig player however had the game paused for nearly ten mins. We wish him a speedy recovery. When play resumed , a Ballincollig point was followed soon after by a rather fortunate goal .An attempt at a point was drifting wide before coming back off the post dropping to an alert Ballincollig forward ,putting 6 between the sides.  A James Ryan point was matched by Collig ,and a fine two pointer from Luke O Herlihy was too little too late as Referee Alan O’Connnor ended the match. A good game , end to end , played in a very sporting fashion , considering the poor conditions. Well done to the lads who battled away after a slow start. A huge effort that could easily have been rewarded. Next up for the Seniors is a home game against Valley Rovers in Páirc Mhichíl Naofa on April 23rd.
