Juniors lose out to Whites Cross
Our Junior A team put in a very gutsy and determined performance this afternoon in Páirc Mhichíl Naofa against a very experienced Whites Cross outfit. With a lot of players just out of Minor , mixed in with a few experienced campaigners , the result was a bit harsh, and at the end could have gone either way indeed. Playing with a breeze in the opening 30, we played a lovely brand of attacking football and were unlucky not to have been further ahead at half time. Adam Hennessy opened the scoring early from a free he earned himself ,and quickly added another from play, before Whites Cross added their first point. Henno again, with a free, and another from play, quickly edged us 4 to 2 ahead, and after Whites Cross got back to within a point, a quick break upfield involving Paddy Quill and Henno, resulted in Cillian Murphy raising a green flag. The second half was always going to be about us dogging it out, and Whites Cross quickly established a foothold in the early part of the half with a goal, which was quickly followed by a brace of two pointers to establish a five point lead. 3 Liam Sullivan frees on the bounce brought us back into contention however, and when Paddy Quill added one from play, it was game on. Whites Cross had other ideas, and when they added a point from play and another from a free, they moved back into a 4 point lead. Paddy Quill again rounded off a great team move with a fabulous score to leave 3 in it , before David Hogan raised our second green flag to draw level with 2 mins on the clock. With time nearly up, we had a great opportunity for goal, but the Whites Cross keeper stood firm and when the ball worked its way downfield, an indiscretion led to us falling behind again, and following the kick out, another free was converted to leave us on the wrong side of a 1-14 2-09 score line. A load of positives, with some lads making their debuts , more to come from these lads. Well done to all involved on such a positive performance.
